Glossary of Terms

These are the beginning steps for you as a healthcare provider to start using evidence based practice. These steps are discussed in more detail in Lesson 4.
Since this is a new process for many healthcare providers a key factor for using evidence based practice is having a mentor.  A mentor in this area is usually a master’s prepared nurse like a Clinical Nurse Specialist or a Nurse Researcher. In addition many facilities have committees that are involved in nursing research, the development of clinical practice guidelines, and standards of care that have members who can serve as a mentor.
Now that you have an understanding of the basics of EBP, continue on with the rest of the lessons.

Lesson 1 Evidence Based Practice Activity

1. Discuss EBP with a colleague

2. Identify nursing committees in your facility that are involved in developing clinical guidelines, involved in nursing research and/or creating standards of care.

EVALUATION: To be completed after Lesson 2
